This program calculates the bearing capacity & settlement of footing in:
- Granular soils - Phi soils
- Cohesive soils – C soils
- Mixed soils – C-phi soils
- Ground water table at ground surface or any where below that depth
Settlement is computed by the program using vertical subgrade modulus for cohesionless soils and by percent vertical strain from a consolidation lab test results for cohesive soils.
The site soils are often stratified, so SHALLOW FOUNDATION can handle any material property.
Analysis can be done in English units ONLY. Supports Window 7/Vista/XP systems. Also analysis can be done for "CONTINUOUS" or "SQUARE" footing shape.

This program uses Vesic Bearing Capacity equations. This program references Foundation Design book (2nd Ed.) by Donald Coduto and NAVFAC DM 7.2.
SHALLOW FOUNDATION can be used by structural engineers since friction angle, cohesion and ground water table are often presented in most soils reports-however a geotechnical engineer involvement is highly recommended.
SHALLOW FOUNDATION will be a geotechnical engineer’s ally, since spreadsheet tables are unstable and a clean report output is virtually non-existent. A table is included for range of vertical subgrade values, but input is up to the user to account for crust over weak soils or settlement concerns.
You can easily adjust footing width, depth of embedment and allowable bearing capacity in order to obtain “equal settlement” between continuous and square footings.
