Liquefaction analysis is one of the most tedious hand calculations faced by the geotechnical engineer. Our liquefaction software, which is based on the 2008 publication "Soil Liquefaction During Earthquakes" by Idriss & Boulanger simplifies this complex analysis. LiquefactionSPT (LIQSPT) program is a Windows based program which performs three tasks: Analysis of liquefaction potential, Dynamic settlement of layers above and below GWT and Lateral spreading calculations if applicable. LiquefactionSPT performs calculations both in SI and in English units.
It should be noted that some City & County reviewers in California are no longer accepting older liquefaction analysis methods based on 1997 and 2003 procedures. It is assumed that all users of LiquefactionSPT have easy access to the 2008 Idriss & Boulanger monograph.
Here are some of the changes in the 2008 procedure:
* Flags-Clay or Unsaturated or Unreliable: Clay is now defined as a material possessing a P.I. value of 7 or higher (not liquefiable). Unsaturated layer is found above the historical GWT elevation (also not liquefiable). Unreliable definition is for a layer with unsure parameters such as disturbed sand layer from sampling (liquefaction is ?).
* Chinese Criteria is discontinued Seed and Idriss (1982) developed criteria for cohesive soils based on case studies by Wang (1979). This was commonly referred to the Chinese criteria. The 2008 Idriss and Boulanger method have developed a new procedure with Clay like, Sand like or Intermediate behavior models using LL and PI values.
* Dynamic Settlement is calculated by the software for each layer that is above & below the GWT.
